Third Sunday In Ordinary Time • Deciding To Answer
Greetings from the Pastor, Week of January 25, 2009
Today we gather together to celebrate the Mass for the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. This week we again stress the call of the first four Apostles. Peter and Andrew, and James and John. Each Sunday has a different version of the call. Last week we read John; this week it is Mark. As Church, we stress the importance of the call of the first four Disciples. It was Andrew who pointed out Jesus to

"STEWARDSHIP”
There is a certain urgency in today’s Gospel as Jesus calls His first disciples - Andrew and Simon, James and John. Each one follows Jesus immediately, unhesitatingly abandoning nets and boats and father and fellow-workers. To what is Jesus calling me-at this moment, in these circumstances? What will I need to abandon in order to follow Him?

Second Sunday In Ordinary Time • Second Thoughts On WWJD
Greetings from the Pastor, Week of January 18, 2009
Today we find ourselves once again in Ordinary Time. Last week the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord was the First Sunday in Ordinary Time and so we began the Ordinary Time Masses with the Monday of the first week. You will notice the Gospel message today is from John and it details the calling of the first Disciples. When the Jerusalem Bible came out, the one thing I noticed was the statement

Today we gather together to celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. It is fitting that I write this article as I wait for people to come for the January Baptism class. As you know we have a class on the first Monday of the month; unless it is a holiday, at 7 p.m. I have had people show up at 7 a.m. and no matter how important Baptism is, we do not make you appear here at 7 in the morning.

One of the easiest ways to kill enthusiasm is to demand it. When we try to force our views on others, they immediately “shut down”, hearing little and caring less. People want to be shown a path, not shoved down it. How well Jesus knew this. He could easily have published a list of must-dos and expected His young flock to abide by them. Instead He simply lived. He manifested His faith in

Epiphany Of The Lord • Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
Greetings from the Pastor, Week of January 04, 2009
Today we gather to celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord or as it is called, the Twelfth day of Christmas or Little Christmas. In the Eastern Rite Churches, that is when they celebrate Christmas. The Antiphon from the Responsorial Psalm says it best, “Lord every nation on earth will adore you.” On Christmas Day, Jesus was presented to the Jewish people when the shepherds, at the Angel’s bequest,

As we pack away the tinsel
The Christmas world can be an unreal, flimsy make-believe world. Our tree, our Santa, artificial snow, decorations and lights are so many stage props. When we pack these away, we are likely to put the spirit too, in a box and label it, “For Christmas only.” As you pack, pause to recall the community of worship, the beauty of the sanctuary, resounding carols and majestic music.
