Impossible Tasks
Imagine the overwhelming stress of the disciples when faced with the task of feeding such a multitude. Can you feel that frustration and fear of failure? Jesus seems to be asking them to do the impossible: feed so many with so little food. It can feel the same for us today. We have knowledge, skills, talents and money. Yet at times all these blessings of the Lord seem too little when faced with

Not quite what he intended
A man with a nagging secret couldn’t keep it any longer. In the confessional he admitted that for years he had been stealing building supplies from the lumberyard where he worked. “What did you take?” his priest asked. “Enough to build my own house and enough for my son’s house. And houses for our two daughters and our cottage at the lake.” “This is very serious,” the priest said. “I

"STEWARDSHIP”
In today’s Gospel, Jesus had planned to slip away from the crowds for a few moments of peace and a little rest. When he saw the people gathered, however, He put His needs aside to meet the needs of others. Sometimes, as good stewards, we are called to do the same.

A monastery was behind on payments for their new belfry. So the friars decided to open a small florist shop to raise the funds. Everyone liked the idea of buying flowers from the men of God, and soon the rival florist across town began complaining that the competition was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not. He went back and begged the friars to close. They

Fifteenth Sunday In Ordinary Time • Accepting Your Destiny
Greetings from the Pastor, Week of July 12, 2009
Today we gather together to celebrate the Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. We watch in the first reading the call to Amos by God and how he is told not to be a prophet, but his answer is that he was called by the Lord to go prophesy to my people Israel. Very often in our own lives we get a sense that God is calling us. We know this because different ways of life become appealing to us. We

"STEWARDSHIP”
Today’s readings are about being chosen and sent. The prophet Amos was chosen by the Lord and sent to use his talents for the people of God. The Gospel recounts the story of the sending of the twelve disciples; and in the second reading, St. Paul reminds us that we, too, are chosen. For what have I been chosen? To whom have I been sent?
