As we have done the last two Sundays, we will continue to brief you for the visit of Bishop Larry Silva on the 18th & 19th of September .
Our third theme is Worship and our goal is to sustain and further develop all initiatives which contribute toward making Parish Liturgy vibrant, meaningful, engaging and relevant to everyday life. The objective is to form a Liturgy Committee that will coordinate the liturgical celebrations of the parish with all clergy, musicians and lay volunteers and servers.
Action 1. The Liturgy Committee will consist of the clergy, Priests and Deacons, the Pastoral assistant for Worship, various ministry directors, coordinator of Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors, altar servers and the coordinators of the ushers and greeters. The Liturgy Committee will meet once a quarter and additionally as needed to prepare for special masses and celebrations.
Evaluation, A debriefing meeting will be scheduled immediately following the celebration to gather feedback.
We will also provide ongoing encouragement, guidance and assistance to liturgical initiatives already operating in the Parish. The lead ministry co-ordinators will provide training for liturgical ministers, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers and altar servers. For seasonal volunteers, identify strategies to sustain their enthusiasm and dedication. Develop strategies to recruit more youth and young adults to serve in the ministries.
A bi-annual review will be conducted to assess the performance of new and continuing volunteers serving in these ministries. Feedback will be obtained from trainers, coordinators and volunteers.
Keep up the good work and you will enjoy the visit of our Bishop. You will get to know him and he will get to know and appreciate you.

--FR DAVE

Mel C. Please note class times.
8:00 AM-8:50 AM Pre-K (4 year olds) through 5th grade 12:30PM-2:00PM 9th grade through 12th grade (Confirmation) 4:30 PM-5:30 PM 6th grade through 8th grade
Please pick up your child on time. Once Mass starts, your child will be taken into the Church, and you will need to pick them up there. Our Catechists often go to Mass following the Morning and Evening classes.
**Our Confirmation program is a 2 year course. It enables us to conform to the recommendations of the Diocese of Honolulu.
**Important message regarding First Communion:
The Diocese of Honolulu wants all preparation for First Communion to take 2 years. What does that mean for your child in grade two? If your child attended religion class in First grade at a parish religious education program or Catholic school, then he/she will proceed directly to our First Communion preparation class and make their First Communion in 2011. First grade is considered the 1st year of preparation.
If your child did not attend any religion class in First grade, then he/she will have to attend Pre-First Communion Class this year in order to make his/her First Communion in 2012. All parishes in the Diocese of Honolulu will be following this new directive.
If you have any questions about enrolling your child, and/or the new directive for First Communion, you may call or text me anytime (I receive texts faster) at 808- 741-7040 or email me at shwaycorps14@yahoo.com
Keith E. Today as last Sunday, we prepare you for the visit of Bishop Silva in September. We will be going over each aspect of our preparation for that visit. Last Sunday we began with the overall look at our Pastoral Plan of Action which will serve as our vision and strategic guide for the next 2-3 years.
This Sunday we elaborate on Community and Evangelization. Our Objective is to reach out to those who live in the neighborhood of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and invite them to attend services and/or provide visitation to their homes.
Our Action is 1. To form a committee to gather data and execute mailings. 2. Divide zip code 96814 into four segments and write and mail a letter to one fourth of the zip code each 6 months over the next two years informing residents of the liturgies and services provided by Sts. Peter and Paul Church. 3. We will also invite those to our parish and also encourage them to request a visitation to their homes if they wish. 4. Form a parish visitation team to respond to requests for visitation to residents homes. 5. Incorporate other welcoming methods to new parishioners such as out- bound calling.
Evaluation of responses to the mail out may result in increase in the Parish October count and an increase in the number of RCIA participants and Confirmations at Sts. Peter and Paul will all be part of the evaluation. You may remember the mail out we sent when I came here; it had good results and we were glad that we did it.
As we near the date of the Bishop’s visitation, I get a sense of how much you want to have an opportunity to meet him.
The big news this week is the coming publication of the third edition of the Roman Missal. In the weeks to come as we learn more and more about the changes, we will inform you. Remember the change affects all of us, so we will go through it together.

--FR DAVE

Mel C. The more we humble ourselves, the better we will appear in the eyes of others. We will be loved more than a giver of gifts. Unselfish humility makes for good character and strong relationships.
SECOND READING- Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24
The epistle of Hebrews imagines eternity in personal rather than political terms.
